Proctor Library Catalog
Selection Policy
The school librarians of Northborough and Southborough have created a selection policy for library books and materials. Feel free to contact Mrs. Bayley should you have any questions about collection development for the Proctor Library.
Circulation Policy
Generally, lower wing students check out books for a one-week period; upper wing students for two weeks. Special arrangements can be made for books borrowed for a school project. Borrowing guidelines for each grade level are as follows:
K: one book borrowed/due each week
Gr. 1: one book borrowed/due each week
Gr. 2: two books borrowed/due each week
Gr. 3: three books borrowed/due each week
Gr. 4: four books borrowed/due each week
Gr. 5: four books borrowed/due each week
Replacement Policy
If a book is truly lost, or damaged beyond repair, there will be a replacement fee (which varies depending on the type of book). In terms of lost items, several reminder notices are sent home during the year, and we will not ask for this fee until the end of the school year, when it is clear that the book is lost. We recommend you check under and behind furniture, as well as in your child’s classroom library. More often than not the book does turn up!
The mission of the Northborough Public School libraries is to provide access to a diverse collection of quality resources in a variety of formats, the appropriate technologies, and a highly skilled staff to support the Northborough Public School’s curriculum and state curriculum frameworks. We are also guided by the AASL’s Standards for the 21st Century Learner. District Librarians meet on a regular basis to work on curriculum mapping, share best practices, and create community projects such as the Northborough Children’s Book Award Program.
The Proctor School Library provides resources and support for students, staff and parents alike. Our goals are to teach Information Literacy and promote reading as a lifelong habit.
“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.”
~Anna Quindlen
General Library Information
Objectives of the Library
The Proctor School Library meets the needs of the entire Proctor community--students, staff and families. The library serves a dual purpose--both as a classroom and as a library providing resources for curricular and personal reading needs. The library curriculum itself includes information literacy, literature appreciation and library skills. Collaborative projects with classroom teachers are encouraged.
The library is open from 8:25 to 3:00. It is closed during the librarian's lunch and duty periods.
Library Usage
Proctor students visit the library once a week for forty minutes. This time is devoted to both instruction and borrowing.
Please encourage your child(ren) to return books on time. The book your child has borrowed may be just the one another student or teacher has been waiting for. Putting books in backpacks the night before library day is often very helpful.
In our library we do not charge fines for late books. However, we do charge a replacement fee for lost or damaged books. Books may be renewed once if they are not on reserve.
I look forward to sharing my love of literature and information literacy with your child and you.
