Dear Proctor Penguins and Families,
We had a great turnout for the AppleFest Parade yesterday! Thanks to everyone who walked with us and supported Proctor! It was a great day.
Not only are we diving into academics this fall, but we are also making sure we are teaching our students the skills they need to navigate everyday life. These are the tools that help them build relationships, manage emotions, and solve problems. Just as we teach our students to read and become mathematicians, we also intentionally teach and practice skills through a social–emotional lens.
This year, our Second Step lessons are one way we do this important work. Students are learning about growth mindset, emotion management, empathy, kindness, and problem-solving, which are all directly connected to our Penguin Way: taking care of ourselves, each other, and our school. Some teachers are also incorporating these lessons into community-building circles, giving students opportunities to share, listen, and practice these strategies together so they become part of daily classroom life.
We look forward to sharing more with you as students bring home the language and strategies they are practicing here at school. Thank you for partnering with us in helping all children feel like they truly belong at Proctor.
Thank you for taking the time to read our weekly newsletter.
