Dear Proctor Penguins and Families,

As we head into the heart of November, our school continues to shine with moments of connection, gratitude, and community. This week’s highlight comes from our very first Penguin Huddle of the year, where our students and staff came together to honor Veterans Day in a truly meaningful way.

A huge thank you to our amazing 5th graders and their teachers for leading and modeling this special Huddle with confidence, kindness, and respect. Their thoughtful reflections and leadership set a wonderful tone for the year ahead.

We’re also deeply grateful to the families and caregivers of our 5th graders who joined us, as well as the veterans who attended and those who participated in the Huddle. Your presence made this gathering so meaningful and memorable.

A special thank you to Mr. Soughley for sharing heartfelt words about his service and what Veterans Day means to him, and to Mr. Sullivan, who demonstrated how to properly fold the American flag and explained the significance of each of the 13 folds.

We are so proud of our students and our entire community for coming together to celebrate our veterans with such gratitude and respect.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and for all you do to support our Proctor Penguins.

This weekly newsletter will outline the following updates:

Proctor School November Food Drive

We’re excited to share that the Proctor Spirit Squad, led by Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Bayley, is organizing a November Food Drive to support the Northborough Food Pantry.

From November 10–22, students and families are invited to join us in living The Penguin Way by taking care of each other. Donation bins are located in the front lobby, and we’re collecting non-perishable items such as canned soups, beans, vegetables, pasta, rice, cereal, oatmeal, and paper goods.

Thank you for helping our students make a difference in our community!

Important Note About Two Different “Sora” Apps

As you may have heard, there are now two very different apps that share the same name — Sora.

At Proctor, we take student cybersafety very seriously, and we want to make sure families can easily tell the difference between them. Please see images and descriptions below.

We encourage all families to check home devices for the Sora AI app and remove it if you do not wish your child to access it. Rest assured that Sora AI is not accessible on school-issued devices.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Bayley, Library Media Specialist.

Sora AI

Sora AI is a new artificial intelligence app created by OpenAI that can generate video content, including deepfakes. This app carries an “unacceptable risk” rating for children and teens and is not intended for educational use. It is available on OpenAI’s platform and on iOS.

Sora Reading App

Sora Reading App, on the other hand, is a trusted digital reading platform provided by the Massachusetts Library System. It is used safely and securely by Proctor students through their Google login to access eBooks and audiobooks. The app is also free to download through regular app stores.
