Dear Proctor Penguins and Families,
It was wonderful to welcome our students back this week. Across the building, classrooms focused on reintroducing routines within the classroom and throughout the school, while also jumping right back into learning.
Many classes began each morning with a community-building circle. These circles are a key component of our restorative practices, helping to strengthen our Tier 1 social, emotional, and behavioral supports for all students. This work aligns directly with our school and district strategic objective of Healthy and Balanced Learners.
At Proctor, restorative practices, trauma-informed practices, and our Second Step curriculum are the power trio guiding our work with students. Our educators are deeply engaged in these approaches to ensure that we meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all learners. As we know, when students feel emotionally safe, connected, and supported, they are better able to engage in and benefit from their learning. This is an area where our classroom teachers have made significant growth over the past few years, and it is evident.
We are also fortunate to have a strong team of support staff working alongside teachers throughout the day to help students feel successful, supported, and ready to learn. This collective effort is what helps make Proctor a place where every child belongs.
Ask your child about
• The routines they practiced this week in their classroom
• What a morning circle looks or feels like
• One way they helped take care of themselves or others at school
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership. We are off to a strong start and are excited for the weeks ahead.
